Tell your MP to protect our oceans from Woodside’s gas
URGENT: We’ve learned that Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek is reviewing Woodside’s plans right now! We only have a few months to make sure she makes the right decision.
Fossil fuel giant Woodside wants to drill for climate-wrecking gas off the coast of Western Australia. It plans to drill up to 80 gas wells in some of the world’s most biodiverse waters - including 50 wells around Scott Reef.
Pristine coral reefs, pygmy blue whales, endangered turtles and countless other species are all at risk - not to mention the harm that Woodside’s gas would do to our climate.
Let’s make sure every MP in the country knows about Woodside's rotten plans and the threat it poses to WA’s spectacular wildlife and our climate.
Your local Members of Parliament have been elected by the people to represent YOU on important issues like our environment and climate change. They have a responsibility to listen to your views.
Send an email to empower them to fight for change
Australia is one of the sunniest, windiest places in the world. It could be a world leader on clean energy - if only Woodside wasn’t standing in the way.
Email your local MP and tell them you want a clean energy future, not Woodside’s dirty gas. State and Federal MPs have the power to stop Woodside - but they won’t act unless we let them know how we feel.
Demand a clean energy transition
Woodside’s Burrup Hub plans to drill for gas at a coral reef, dump gas pipelines into endangered turtle habitats and conduct seismic blasting that can deafen whales. The gas is almost entirely for export, and would produce over 6.1 billion tonnes of climate pollution between now and 2070.
Instead of Woodside’s dirty gas, the government needs to fast-track the scaling of Australia’s clean energy sector. Western Australia is one of the sunniest, windiest places in the world, and with its skilled workforce and export infrastructure is perfectly placed to become a renewable energy superpower.
It doesn’t make sense to rely on risky, polluting fossil fuels like gas for local energy or export revenue when we can fast-track renewables. Instead of being one of the world’s largest fossil fuel exporters, Australia can be a world leader in clean energy transition - which will help protect our communities, environment and economy.
